SEMINAR “THE LOCAL NULL CONTROLLABILITY OF THE BURGERS EQUATION”

Title: The local null controllability of the Burgers Equation

Abstract: The local null controllability of the Burgers equation has been extensively studied under various control settings by several authors. This seminar will discuss local null controllability using internal controls depending only on time for the Burgers equation posed on a bounded interval with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. In particular, it will present a recent joint result with Minh Nguyen Tran showing that the system is not locally null controllable, even in finite time. The approach is inspired by previous work of Coron, Koenig, and Nguyen in the context of KdV equations, and the analysis also relies on new estimates for solutions of the heat equation with low-regularity data.
